Wegbeschreibung
For the second stage of the Hedelfingen - Rohracker wine trail, follow the path further downhill, cross the Dürrbach and Dürrbachstraße and climb up the steps at house number 35. At the end, turn left towards the Catholic Church and cross Dürrbachstraße again. The route continues uphill through the ‘Am Weißen’ gardens, past modern art and a children's playground. Cross the Egerweg and follow the hairpin bends that lead to a small staircase. Then turn left and after 150 metres turn right at the next sign. Gardens and vineyards dominate the landscape again and after a slight right turn, the top of the television tower appears in front of you.
At the next junction, follow the path straight ahead through gardens. Soon you will come to a wooded area with the SKV Rohracker sports facilities in front of you. Keep left, pass Speidelweg and walk past the ‘Frauenkopf’ bus stop into Rosengartenstraße, where you stroll through one of Stuttgart's most beautiful residential areas. At house number 93, the path leads downhill to the left into a shady wooded area. After a few metres, follow the hairpin bend to the left and continue downhill. The view here is marvellous: the vineyards to the right and left, Rohracker below you and the Neckar valley all the way to the Swabian Alb in front of you. At a right-hand bend, steeply downhill, stands Rohreck Castle: it gave the village its name. And this so-called Burghaldenweg used to be the shortest route for Rohracker's population to get to Stuttgart to go to work and to the market. Today there are beautiful summer houses on the hill. The route now goes a short distance along Rohrackerstraße. At the level of house no. 353, a steep gradient leads down to Tiefenbachstraße.
Back on Rohrackerstraße, follow a bend to the left at house number 338 and then turn left onto a path that leads you back into the vineyards. At Jaiserklinge, turn right, then right again at a winegrower's cottage with a mobile phone antenna. At the height of another transmitter mast, you can make an interesting discovery on the left-hand side of a dry stone wall: The head of a man can be seen on one of the sandstones. Although the relief is somewhat weathered, you can still recognise the man's impressive moustache very clearly. This artistically decorated stone probably comes from the ruins of a Stuttgart town house and was used to repair the vineyard walls after the Second World War.
On your right you will see the Bernhardskirche: a late Gothic church right in the centre of Rohracker! Continue along Edenbergstraße through a residential area, then steeply downhill along Speidelweg and a little to the right into Rohrackerstraße. The alley ‘An der Kelter’ takes you to the headquarters of the Steilwerk winegrowers‘ cooperative: with four hectares of vineyards, it is the smallest of Stuttgart's winegrowers’ cooperatives. It has 24 members, whose vineyards are all located in a landscape conservation area and mostly on terraced steep slopes. The elongated wine press building is a popular meeting place for connoisseurs and gourmets - but culture vultures don't miss out either.
Here it is worth taking a short detour further along Rohrackerstraße: after a few metres, past the Bernhardskirche church, you will reach the historic Waldhorn inn. Swabian and Greek delicacies invite you to feast. And you can savour these delicacies in an extraordinary place - the Schillererker.
Back at the wine press, cross Sillenbucher Straße, walk a little to the right and turn left in front of a restaurant onto a path that leads you over a small bridge over the Bußbach stream. Follow the stream to the left. Passing tennis courts and the Rohracker active playground, you will come to the club restaurant of the Hedelfingen gymnastics club, the Dürrbachklause Da Domenico. From here it is only a few metres to the Dürrbachstraße bus stop.
