Wegbeschreibung
Cross the Park & Ride car park and turn left towards Max-Eyth-See.
As you cross the play and sunbathing area, you can already see the suspension structure of the Max-Eyth-See-Steg suspension bridge in the distance. Thanks to the two famous Stuttgart engineers Jörg Schlaich and Brigitte Schlaich-Peterhans for this outstanding engineering achievement. The extraordinary suspension bridge blends in perfectly with the hilly landscape. Cross the Neckar here!
The Max Eyth Lake recreation area is home to a wide variety of animal species. Take a close look: With a bit of luck, you might spot a flock of greylag geese or one of the many species of heron that live here!
Walk along Auststrasse, which merges into Arnoldstrasse.
The banks of the Neckar are ideal for a short break before continuing on to Mönchfeld. To your right flows the Neckar, on which numerous ships and pleasure boats are travelling.
To the left, the charming vineyards stretch down to the banks of the Neckar. At Wilnaerstraße, you have two options. Firstly, you can turn left until the route reaches a serpentine path on your left after a climb of just under 300 metres. Alternatively, you can add an attractive section to the route - along the wine-growing nature trail ("Weinlehrpfad"). To do this, continue along Arnoldstraße for approx. 200 metres until Baltenstraße branches off to the left. Turn immediately left here onto the small footpath that leads directly to the steep slopes of Mühlhausen ("Steillagen").
At the foot of the vineyards, follow the path to the right until you finally turn left again onto Baltenstraße and follow it around the school building. After walking round it on the right, cross the small park behind it and walk along Mönchfeldstraße until a footpath on the left leads uphill past old walls (bunker entrance).
With the yellow building on your right, you will pass Palm'sche Schloss, which today serves as the district town hall for Mühlhausen. After this short ascent, you can stop for refreshments at the rest area for the rest of the walk. However, it is worth holding out a little longer, as a few metres further up you will find the ancient ruins of Engelburg Castle, an exciting history lesson, which is rounded off with a wonderful view over Hofen and Neugereut.
The rest of the route, which leaves the Mönchfeldschule on the right, is once again dedicated to the theme of wine. On the left, between the vines, you can enjoy breathtaking views over the state capital of Baden-Württemberg as far as the city's landmark - the television tower. While terraced houses in Mönchfeld alternate with pretty gardens on the right, the path finally leads through vineyards and climbs steeply after a bend to the right.
Keep left at the fork in the path until you reach the end of the tranquil gardens and follow the sloping path to the left again. Continue downhill until you finally turn right onto the steeply ascending serpentine path and are back on the ‘normal’ route.
Once you reach the ridge, the view of Stuttgart and the Neckar valley is particularly beautiful. The route leads along the ridge past tennis courts back to the Max-Eyth-See footbridge and the starting point.
