On the round trail "via naturae", the "path of nature", you can find interesting facts about the forest.
In a shorter (approx. 3.5 kilometres) or longer (approx. 8 kilometres) loop, the "via naturae" leads deep into the protected forest of the King’s Seat. The well-marked circular trail first runs over a distance of 2 kilometres with a slight incline to the hut at the Hohlen Kästenbaum. Here, the trail turns south and follows the Upper Dragon Cave Trail and the Kaiser Franz Trail for the next two kilometres to the Linsenteicheck. At an elevation of 310 meters, this is the lowest point of the trail. It is recommended to take a break in the hut, as the "via naturae" climbs steadily and slightly for the next 4 kilometres. Via the Alte Hilsbacher Weg, past the Kraussteinhütte, you return to the starting point on the King’s Seat at an altitude of 560 meters.
With numerous picture boards, the "via naturae" aims to contribute to bringing people closer to the forest as part of their natural basis of life. It is therefore aimed at everyone interested in nature - but especially at teachers and students who would like to take part in biology lessons directly in nature. The "via naturae" offers many interesting suggestions.
The starting point is directly at the Königstuhl, which is easy to reach by funicular railway and by car. In addition, bus line 39 runs regularly from Bismarckplatz to the King's Seat and line 30 from Universitätsplatz to the observatory stop on the King's Seat.
