The Neckar Valley cycle path, classified with 4 stars, which passes numerous medieval castles from Neckargemünd and is also ideal for family trips, is just as inviting to exercise in nature as the Neckarsteig.
This qualified hiking trail, voted Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2018, takes the hiker on its first stage from Heidelberg via the Königstuhl to the former "Free Imperial City" of Neckargemünd, whose over 1,000-year history he can explore on a tour through the medieval streets.
The second stage leads from Neckargemünd over the 800-year-old ruins of Dilsberg Castle, which towers high above the Neckar and offers a sublime view over the Neckar valley.
Visit the medieval town center and the historic castle complex and, from May to September, the underground well tunnel, which leads 80 meters deep into the mountain.
