The fact that the juniper heaths of the nature reserve are among the most beautiful and valuable outside the Swabian Alb is thanks to centuries of sheep grazing. In 1988, this 64-hectare piece of natural and cultural landscape was designated a nature reserve. And after a temporary interruption, sheep are now grazing here again regularly, helping to protect the heathland: for the elfin bunting, spiderwort, red-backed shrike and co.
