Heilbronn Main Cemetery
Opened in 1882, Heilbronn's main cemetery covers more than 15 hectares and is the largest cemetery in the city. The historic part, with its cemetery buildings, crematorium and eight hectares of gardens, has been included in the provisional list of cultural monuments in Baden-Württemberg.
Beschreibung
In addition to its function as a place of remembrance and commemoration, the main cemetery is also an important park for the population seeking recreation. Its old tree population, magnificent hedges and botanical rarities provide a retreat for many animals and make it a green oasis in the east of Heilbronn.
As the central cemetery of the city of Heilbronn, the main cemetery has a number of honorary graves, including those of former mayors (Karl Wüst, Paul Göbel, Emil Beutinger, Paul Meyle), factory owners (Peter Bruckmann), and artists and scientists (physician and prehistorian Alfred Schliz). There are also special graves for the fallen of the First and Second World War as well as for the so-called displaced persons. The Dachstein graves, in which ten Heilbronn students and a teacher are buried who lost their lives in a mountain accident on Good Friday 1954 in the Dachstein Mountains, are a tragic testimony to the times.
Row and elective graves for burial in the ground and cremation are available for the current burial service. In addition, the main cemetery also offers the opportunity to purchase an urn grave at a historically preserved grave site. One grave site is reserved for anonymous cremations, the urn graves in the Cherry Meadow.
The mourning hall for burials in the ground holds 75 seats, and the mourning hall in the crematorium holds 80 seats.
