European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)
The EMBL permanent exhibition "The World of Molecular Biology" in Heidelberg invites visitors aged 14 and over to gain exciting insights into life sciences, research and state-of-the-art technologies.
The world of molecular biology - an EMBL exhibition
Come and discover life!
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is the leading institute for molecular biology research in Europe and has laboratories at six locations. The largest site and headquarters was founded in Heidelberg in 1974.
The EMBL permanent exhibition "The World of Molecular Biology" shows the life sciences in all their facets - focussing on research and researchers as well as the technologies of the EMBL.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through different scales of life, from genomes to ecosystems, and presents imaging technologies that shed light (and electrons) on processes that keep our bodies alive.
More than 45 exhibits invite visitors aged 14 and over to engage with science and its significance for individuals and society. For example, the exhibition highlights fundamental findings on the development and possible prevention of cancer.
Citizens and school classes can explore the exhibition once a week as part of a guided tour. All visits must be booked online in advance.
