Emmertsgrund is located around 6 km from the city centre at an altitude of 250 metres.
Thanks to its proximity to the forest in the east and the vineyards and fields in the west, it offers local recreation and a beautiful view of the Rhine Valley.
Emmertsgrund is home to 6,500 people from more than 100 different countries of origin.
In the north-east, the neighbourhood is dominated by high-rise buildings, which were built in the early 1970s with the help of the federal government. The attempt to achieve urbanity through densification, family-friendly and affordable housing construction was the central driving force here.
In 2015, Heidelberg was honoured for its successful citizen dialogue in the Emmertsgrund district in the state competition "City Citizen Dialogue"
