Academy of Sciences
The Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Heidelberg is the oldest of its kind in Germany and promotes excellent research, interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue between science and society.
The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences was founded in 1909.
It was constituted as the Baden Academy of Sciences in the tradition of the Electoral Palatinate Academy founded by Elector Karl-Theodor in 1763. The Heidelberg Academy has remained true to the founding idea of bringing the state's outstanding scientists together for interdisciplinary discussions and joint basic research.
Like all eight academies of science supported by the federal states, the Landesakademie Baden-WĂĽrttemberg is a learned society and non-university research institution. It is the sponsor of research projects, organizes scientific conferences and public lecture series and promotes the next generation of scientists.
