Wassermuseum Ihlingen
A pumping station as an industrial monument
Beschreibung
drinking water at the end of the 19th century? Then the Horber Water Museum is the right place for you. It is located in the Ihlingen district near the Romanesque St James' Church and is a former pumping station that was part of the former Rexingen waterworks. The pumping station was part of a centralised high-pressure water supply system built in 1898 for the villages of Rexingen and Ihlingen. The drinking water was diverted from the "Katzenbrunnen" and supplied 250 house connections. When the quality of the water deteriorated, the Rexingen waterworks and the pumping station in Ihlingen were shut down.
Since 1999, the pumping station of the former Rexingen waterworks has been an industrial monument. Various pumps, valves and pipework can be seen. Today, electricity is generated in the remodelled pumping station via a new turbine and fed into the public grid.
Our museum guide Paul Gekle is looking forward to your enquiries and is available for individual guided tours.
