Beschreibung
The Weggental pilgrimage church and monastery is idyllically located on the outskirts of the historic diocesan town of Rottenburg am Neckar. The beginnings can be traced back to a wayside shrine in Weggental from around 1450 / 1460, which enjoyed a special devotion to the Mother of God. The first chapel was consecrated in 1521. The present church was built between 1682 and 1695 and furnished with numerous treasures and precious objects during the Baroque period.
It was remodelled at the end of the 19th century and renovated in the 1960s. Today, the pilgrimage church is a place of history and quiet remembrance. The figures and the many illustrations of scenes from the Bible are beautiful.
The Weggentaler Kripple (December to Candlemas) is also famous.
