Uhustein
The premium hiking trail "Waldpfad Groppertal" leads through picturesque Black Forest landscapes over a distance of around eleven kilometres. A highlight of the route is the 20 metre high "Uhustein" rock with a viewing platform in the Germanswald forest in Villingen.
Beschreibung
Brown ironstone was once mined at Uhustein and silver was extracted from it. Unfortunately, this was not very profitable, which is why mining ceased after a short time. However, some of the old fissures from the open-cast mining era have been preserved here to this day.
Another special feature is the "granite sow", located in the immediate vicinity of the Uhustein. Its origin and significance have long been unknown: For some, it symbolises the last wild boar that was shot in Villingen's Germanswald forest. Others see it as a reminder of the miners from the silver mine.
First and foremost, however, the wild boar is known as a popular photo motif.
