Torwärterhäuschen
Until 1836 home of the Altheim gatekeeper
Beschreibung
As with the Bildeching and Mühlen gates, the "Thorhäusle" at the Altheim gate was located in front of the gate tower, which was around 23 metres high. The western gable end of the little house leaned against another wall, which formed a kind of enclosure in front of the town gate, which could also be monitored from the outer ring wall tower. In 1662, a timbered half-timbered storey with a gabled roof was erected on the solid base of the gatekeeper's cottage. The last "Altheim gatekeeper" was Johann Bailänder, who was rewarded for his service with 7 guilders a year plus free accommodation in the gatekeeper's cottage until the town gates were lifted in 1836.
