Nature reserve & history
Formerly the most important quarry in Württemberg, the reed sandstone quarry near the Jägerhaus supplied valuable building material for over half a millennium, which enjoyed a high reputation not only in Heilbronn, but far beyond the city limits.
The purpose of protection is to preserve the abandoned quarry site as an area of natural and cultural historical importance, to maintain its characteristic features as a valuable habitat for native wild flora and fauna, to safeguard the area for quiet recreation by the general public not tied to recreational facilities, and to maintain the species composition of the forest.
The nature reserve is accessible by a circular trail on the former access and exit roads.
A brochure on the reed sandstone quarry nature reserve near the Jägerhaus is available from the Planning and Building Law Office, Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety Department, Frankfurter Strasse 73.
