Beschreibung
Bad Wimpfen marks the transition from Württemberg to the Electoral Palatinate, from Swabian to Baden, from the vineyards to the red sandstone cliffs of the Odenwald.
This is where the castle district of the Neckar Valley begins, and it takes barely half an hour to reach the next mountain fortress. At Guttenberg Castle, real noblemen still reside within walls that have remained undestroyed over the centuries. Its attraction is the bird of prey observatory, where eagles and vultures majestically spread their wings over the Neckar valley every day during the season.
A few kilometers further on, at Hornberg Castle, the famous Götz von Berlichingen once resided before he went down in the history books with a curse. Castle by castle, the Neckar works its way further into the Odenwald, accompanied by ships that have to be lifted to the next level at numerous locks.
An experience! The stage ends in the beautiful half-timbered town of Eberbach, where the Neckar now turns 90 degrees and continues westwards.
