Neckar Riverfront Tübingen
The Neckar river front is the most famous photo motif of the university town. From the Neckar Bridge you have the most beautiful view of Tübingen's "chocolate side". Stiftskirche, Hölderlinturm, Burse, Evangelisches Stift and Schloss Hohentübingen are strung upstream like a string of pearls.
Beschreibung
The poet Friedrich Hölderlin lived in the Hölderlin Tower with the Zimmer carpenter family for 36 years until his death in 1843. In the Burse he was treated as a mentally ill patient according to the state of knowledge at that time and was dismissed as incurable. Today it houses the philosophical seminar as well as the art-historical one.
European intellectual history was written in the Evangelical Monastery. Hölderlin, Schelling, Hegel and Mörike, among others, spent their student days in the famous forge of poets and thinkers, more rebellious than ambitious.
Above is Hohentübingen Palace, which today houses the university (archaeology, ethnology, cultural studies) as well as the Museum of Ancient Cultures with some collections and the Ice Age art, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
To enjoy the entire panorama from different angles, a walk along the plane tree avenue on the idyllic Neckar Island is recommended.
