Luziferturm
Former witch prison
Beschreibung
Leading from west to east, the inner "Ihlinger Tor" (Ihlinger Gate), named in 1273, granted access to Horber's old town centre, which was enclosed by an almost rectangular town wall, which is why this town gate was also called the Lucifer Tower according to the Morgenstern. On the second floor of the gate tower, behind the small window opening to the left of the upper embrasure, the "Ruebkammer", made of wooden plank walls, served as a witches' prison. At the beginning of the modern era, many innocent victims of this mass delusion had to wait here between the "amicable and embarrassing" interrogations for the torturer or, once the sentence had been passed, for the executioner.
