Beschreibung
Description
A narrow passageway round the town archives leads to the Kesselwasen, where there is evidence of mills as early as 1428 and where two waterwheels are still in operation today. They powered machines and turbines until the 20th century and have been preserved as evidence of industrialisation. The view across the Rossneckar Canal to the houses on the Inner Bridge is affectionately called "Little Venice" by the people of Esslingen.
Today, people enjoy the high quality of living and recreation along the Neckar. There are many beautiful things to discover during a walk along Esslingen's Neckar canals: The picturesque Little Venice, the old water wheels, the Hammer Canal with its Art Nouveau villas and finally the idyllically situated Water House.
The waterwheels
There is evidence of mills in Esslingen as early as 1428. Today, two waterwheels are still in operation in Little Venice - hidden behind the large weeping willow. They powered machines and turbines until the 20th century and have been preserved as evidence of industrialisation. Even today, they are used to generate energy and produce 8 kW of electricity.
