Liebfrauenkapelle
"Kapell" in the city centre
Beschreibung
Outside the inner ring of town walls, on what was once the right bank of the Grabenbach, stands the Chapel of Our Lady, whose mighty supporting pillars on the nave and church tower bear witness to the fact that the church literally threatened to slide down the hump in the middle of the 17th century due to the soft subsoil. Around 1280, the Benedictine monastery of Reichenbach built a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary here, which has been preserved as the choir of the former hospital church. Around 1363, the citizens of Horb added a nave and tower to this chapel. Since the end of the Thirty Years' War, Franciscans from the Tyrolean province used the Chapel of Our Lady as a monastery church for almost one hundred and forty years. The precious frescoes and the Gothic winged altar are particularly worth seeing.
