Königstuhl
The Königstuhl is the 568 metre high local mountain of Heidelberg.
On the Königstuhl you will find an oasis of peace and relaxation, which also offers a fantastic view of Heidelberg, the Neckar valley and the Rhine plain.
In the warm season, it is between 5 and 6 degrees cooler here than in the city.
A steep staircase (also known as the ladder to heaven) leads up to the Königstuhl from the castle and, since 1907, the mountain railway: from the Kornmarkt valley station, you can travel up to the summit via the castle and Molkenkur stations.
Alternatively, the number 39 bus runs from Bismarckplatz to Königstuhl every hour from 6.00 am to 7.00 pm.
At the top, visitors can expect not only breathtaking views, but also many attractions: the 48,000 square metre Märchenparadies leisure park promises magical hours for the whole family, the Tinnunculus falconry organises daily public flight demonstrations and you can immerse yourself in the fascination of astronomy at the famous Landessternwarte observatory.
Those who prefer hiking will find many attractive destinations and routes for all fitness levels from the Königstuhl. Two very special forest trails have been created here: the"Via Naturae" and the forest adventure trail. All routes are signposted.
