Keltenpfad Magdalenenberg
The Magdalenenberg in Villingen-Schwenningen is one of the largest burial mounds of the Hallstatt period in Central Europe.
Beschreibung
The Magdalenenberg burial mound can be reached after a 30-minute walk starting at the Franciscan Museum. The logo of the Celtic Trail shows a small bronze bird that was recovered from the prince's burial chamber. Signs point the way to the Magdalenenberg.
Display boards provide information about the most important historical events surrounding the Celtic princely tomb, such as the discovery of the burial chamber and the excavations. Visitors can also enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city.
The finds from the archaeological excavations can be seen in the Franciscan Museum. Selected grave goods are on display in the permanent exhibition and the original and partially reconstructed burial chamber of the prince can be viewed.
An audio guide app for the Magdalenenberg Celtic Trail complements the "outdoor museum". The three audio tours 'In the museum', 'On the way' and 'The monument' offer interesting facts from the world of the Celts and additional information about the burial mound and its artefacts. The app is available for iOS and Android and is free to download.
