Käthchenhouse
Gothic stone house from the 14th century
Beschreibung
This Gothic stone house dates back to the 14th century and stood out in the old town with its half-timbered houses. The house got its name from the historical knight play "Käthchen von Heilbronn" by Heinrich von Kleist.
It was formerly inhabited by the Heilbronn reformer Johannes Lachmann. He also had the Renaissance oriel (1534) decorated with portraits of the prophets Jesaja, Jeremias, Hosea and Habakuk.
In 1843, printed guidebooks first referred to the medieval-looking building as the "Käthchenhaus." However, a direct connection to the play has not been proven yet. At the suggestion of the Heilbronn reformer Johannes Lachmann, who lived in the house, the builder of the Kilian Tower, Hans Schweiner, is said to have designed the beautiful Renaissance oriel with the portraits of four prophets.
Today, there is a restaurant in the basement and offices as well as living quarters on the upper floor.
