Hochturm (Aussichtsturm)
The Staufer humpback ashlar tower was built in the 13th century at the highest point of the town (640 metres above sea level) as a guard and prison tower. The high tower offers a magnificent panoramic view of the three-level landscape in which Rottweil and its surroundings are embedded - the Neckar valley, the wooded Keuper heights, the Swabian Alb chain and the Black Forest foothills.
Beschreibung
The high tower formed the tip of a fortress triangle to protect the city, which was the most vulnerable from the west. Height of the tower: 54 metres.
You can obtain the key to the High Tower from the Tourist Information Centre next to the Old Town Hall against a deposit and at the Dominican Museum under the same conditions during the respective opening hours. The last key to the High Tower is handed out one hour before closing time.
Due to the construction site at the High Tower, it is currently not open to the public for safety reasons !
