Hesse cabinet in the antiquarian bookshop Heckenhauer
The Tübingen Hesse Cabinet is dedicated to the literary roots of the world-famous poet and Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse (1877-1962). It invites you on a journey of discovery in the footsteps of the poet of youth.
Beschreibung
The cabinet is housed in part of the rooms of the antiquarian bookshop Heckenhauer on Holzmarkt. This is where Hesse began his apprenticeship as a bookseller over 100 years ago - in 1895. In the university town, after crisis-ridden youthful years, he finally found inner peace and began to devote himself intensively to literature. At the end of his apprenticeship, Hesse published his first poems, the Romantic Songs, laying the foundation for his later world fame as a writer. Special attractions awaiting visitors include the book depository, which is over 150 years old, and the spiral staircase, which is just as old.
