German-American Institute (DAI)
The German-American Institute Heidelberg has been promoting democracy, intercultural exchange and education for over 60 years with cultural programmes, a library, language courses and offers for all age groups.
The German-American Institute (DAI) has been committed to promoting democracy, dialogue and cultural exchange for over six decades. As an independent public cultural institution, the DAI is firmly rooted in Heidelberg and the region. Here, political, social and cultural topics are discussed and knowledge about the USA is imparted - beyond the usual clichés.
Cultural programme
The DAI offers a varied programme for all age groups:
- Lectures, seminars and discussions on politics, economics and ecology
- Readings and literary events, e.g. Night of the Poets (April) and the World Poetry Festival poeZone (autumn)
- Music and film, including concerts, the Heidelberg Piano Week and the Silent Film & Live Music Festival (January)
- Events for the young scene, such as parties and poetry slams
Tickets can be booked directly online.
Library
The DAI's public English-language library is the only one in the Rhine-Neckar region. It offers:
- Books, magazines, videos and DVDs
- Advice on exchange programmes, language trips, internships, study and job opportunities in the USA, Canada and much more.
- Support for pupils, students and career starters
Business & Intercultural Resource Centre (BIRC)
The BIRC supports students, professionals and newcomers with:
- Information about the USA
- TOEFL test preparation and language courses
- Counselling on career and study opportunities
For children there is the English learning project OWLS (One World Language School) - learning English in a fun and playful way.
