Garnisonmuseum Ludwigsburg
The exhibition at the Ludwigsburg Garrison Museum takes visitors on a journey through 260 years of garrison history. From aspects of the army in the 18th century to the eventful Napoleonic era, highlights lead through the diverse 19th century. The tour concludes with the turbulent and troubled decades of the Second World War and the final end of the "Swabian Potsdam" with the withdrawal of the American troops in 1994.
The Ludwigsburg Garrison Museum is located in the Asperger Torhaus, one of six historic gatehouses in Ludwigsburg. The six historic gatehouses of Ludwigsburg were part of the city walls built between 1758 and 1760 under Duke Carl Eugen and formed the exits to the city. Following extensive renovation in 2004, the gatehouses now serve as museums, archives and exhibition spaces.
