Ehemaliges Franziskanerinnenkloster
1408 to 1780 Convent of the Franciscan nuns
Beschreibung
In 1408, the collection of Franciscan Tertiaries, which had been housed in the lower town since 1293, found a new home in the house of the Horber merchant Esellast at the Bußtor, whose Romanesque components from around 1227 abut the north-west corner of the inner town wall. During the Thirty Years' War, the lower collection of Franciscan nuns was merged with the middle collection and the convent building was subsequently extended. After the Franciscan nuns' hermitage was closed by imperial order in 1780, the 'Ritter' brewery pub was established in the south wing of the convent, which burnt down completely in 1909, creating space for the church square with its lime and chestnut trees.
TIP: The former Franciscan convent is now home to the cultural restaurant of the cultural association "projekt zukunft - kultur im kloster". It offers a varied menu and numerous events that invite you to relax and switch off.
