Burgruine Hohendießen
Former seat of the high nobility of Dießen -
Enjoy the view of the charming district of Dießen from the castle ruins
Beschreibung
From the middle of the 13th century, the castle was the seat of Dießen's local nobility. Today, the gatehouse and parts of the farm buildings have been preserved. Remains of the eastern and western gable walls and the foundation wall of the southern long side of the main building, the Pallas, are still standing.
After the restoration in 1969/70, performances by the "Dießener Burgtheater" made the ruins famous far and wide.
In the meantime, the "Förderverein Burgruine Hohendießen" (Hohendießen Castle Ruins Support Association) has undertaken the further safeguarding and restoration of the building fabric and is committed to preserving the castle ruins.
