Art Collection Lorenzkapelle
The Lorenz Chapel, picturesquely situated on the town wall, is Rottweil's oldest museum. It is home to medieval stone sculptures from Rottweil.
The art collection is open from April to October, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 2 - 4 pm.
On St Lawrence's Day, 10 August, there is usually a church service in the chapel.
Beschreibung
Following the exhibition to mark the 100th birthday of Siegfried Haas in 2021, the exhibition has been redesigned and has a fresh new look. The chapel itself was built around 1580 as a cemetery church. After secularisation, it was Rottweil's first museum from 1851. The art collection in the Lorenz Chapel includes the cycle of figures from the Rottweil chapel tower, which is one of the most important achievements of Gothic monumental sculpture of the 14th century in Swabia. The collection is complemented by late Gothic sculptures from the Heilig-Kreuz-Münster and the programme of figures from the market fountain from the early 16th century.
