Beschreibung
Designed in the 17th century as a “city of squares”, Mannheim itself represents a special feature of urban development. Within the city centre, with its chessboard pattern, and in the neighbouring city districts, numerous historical buildings and façades bear witness to the influences of a wide range of architectural movements. Baroque, Art Nouveau, New Objectivity and post-war architecture are just as easy to discover as excellent examples of modern urban planning. Architecture fans can choose between two guided tours through entirely different city districts. From the water tower in the enchanting Art Nouveau square of Friedrichsplatz, past the splendid mansions that housed the trade families and industrial leaders at the time of city’s founding and the industrial residences of the Oststadt district, or in the direction of the inner-city “squares” where a mixture of modern and historical architecture awaits.
This tour can also be booked in German, French, Spanish and Russian.
