...by train

Throughout the Neckar valley there are railroad lines that make it easy to travel by train. There are several railroad stations on the cycle route with regular long-distance connections (IC) such as Rottweil, Horb, Tübingen, Reutlingen, Plochingen, Stuttgart, Heidelberg and Mannheim. There are also other stations with local transport connections.

Taking bicycles on the train

Please note that separate tickets must be booked for local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn and S-Bahn) and long-distance trains (Intercity and Eurocity trains, ICE 4, ICE 3 neo and ICE T) and that reservations for bicycles may need to be made.

bwegt Radexpresse

In addition to the regular connections, bwegt Radexpresse trains run in Baden-Württemberg. The trains offer space for a particularly large number of bicycles, some of which are even historic vehicles. The route from Heidelberg to Heilbronn mainly follows the course of the Neckar river and is considered one of the most beautiful railroad lines in Germany.

More information about the stations

You can find out whether your chosen station on the Neckar Valley Cycle Route has an elevator, is accessible at ground level and what other services are available in the Deutsche Bahn station database.

Here you will find information on the accessibility of the individual tracks, the facilities at the station (e.g. ticket machines) and the services available at the station as well as the options for transferring to other means of transport (e.g. bus, cab, etc.).

...by car

The Neckar Valley Cycle Route is very well connected from all directions in Germany thanks to its proximity to the A 81 (Villingen-Schwenningen, Rottweil, Stuttgart, Heilbronn), A 5 (Heidelberg), A 6 (Mannheim) and A 8 (Stuttgart) highways. Tip:

For a cycle tour from the source to the estuary, it is advisable to book accommodation at the destination before the trip and park your car there or in a public parking lot. The journey from the respective destination to Villingen can be made comfortably by train, including bicycle transport.

...with the long-distance bus

You can reach the Neckar Valley Cycle Route from numerous cities in Germany with long-distance buses such as Flixbus. The buses stop, for example, in Villingen-Schwenningen, Tübingen, Reutlingen, Nürtingen, Stuttgart, Heilbronn, Heidelberg and Mannheim. Bicycles (not pedelecs) can be taken on board by prior arrangement.
